I hold a PhD degree from the University of Lorraine – France in NLP, and I have over 15 years of experience working in academia (research and teaching), and over 7 years of experience working in data science.
I am currently working as an Assistant Professor at the Islamic University of Gaza (IUG), which has been destroyed during the ongoing war. Here, I led a cross-functional team of seven for three years to provide e-Learning services for 15K students and 500 professors to continue the educational process during the coronavirus pandemic. The student engagement was about 95%. The team led the university to success despite limited resources. I also taught several graduate and postgraduate courses in various topics including Python, AI, and NLP, and supervised 10 master students and published 31 articles in the field. I also collaborated on two Erasmus Plus projects with European universities to build a digital library for Palestine and to create an eMaster Program.
Previously, I worked at The United Nations International Computer Center (UNICC) as a Data Scientist, improving products and services for UN partners by using advanced AI technologies, setting up AI-based chatbots and search engines, creating and maintaining models & dashboards, leading students and junior data scientists to work on 7 PoC projects, working with a cross-functional team to create a framework for AI & ML governance.
If you catch me outside of work, I’m an adventurous traveler – 14 countries and counting. I love to travel, swim, and meet new people over a cup of coffee.
