Dwight Barry

I love data.

Well, more accurately, I love solving problems with data–and then telling stories with those results in ways that resonate with the audience, no matter who they are or what they do.

I’m good at analytics, but I’m *really* good at telling stories with data, and translating numbers into actionable insights.

Outstanding Communicator:
Have communicated technical subjects to a wide variety of audiences, including C- and VP-level business executives, state and federal legislators, industry professionals, academic researchers, & the lay public. Have communicated insights from analytic results to drive changes in long-held enterprise-level KPIs and created opportunities for millions of dollars in savings.

Experienced Leader:
Project development, management, coordination, & supervision from single-resource to large, multi-specialty teams. This includes supervision of direct reports, project management details, and budget development & oversight. Understands practical tradeoffs between approaches like CRISP-DM & Agile/Lean, as well as the importance of reproducible product development & literate coding.

Expert Statistician:
o Statistical analyses & predictive modeling techniques (e.g., linear/logistic regression; CART; SVM; GAM), data mining techniques & machine learning algorithms (e.g., clustering, association), time series analysis (e.g., forecasting, trend, intervention, survival, and time to event analyses), large datasets
o Communication and reporting insights from multivariate analysis via visualization, including use of both static images & interactive javascript apps
o Experimental design, metric development, monitoring, & assessment
o GIS and geospatial pattern analysis
o Understanding of frequentist, Bayesian, & Likelihood/Information-Theory approaches to probabilistic inference
o Uses R, SAS, SQL, ArcGIS, QGIS, Excel, d3js+html, Tableau, REDCap, Python, markdown, svn/git, Linux/Unix — if I don’t know it already, I can figure it out!
